Why? – “Sod In The Seed”

August 13th will see the return of indie-folk scribes WHY? with the release of their latest EP Sod In The Seed. Though if the just released song of the same name is any indication, things are going to be a little different.

With a prominent, upbeat bass, mixed with plucky background noises and singer Yoni Wolf spitting staccato-spiked rhythms, WHY? looks to be changing up the formula from their last effort Eskimo Snow. Gone are the slow builds, the pained vocals and the stable indie-folk base. Replaced instead by Gorrillaz-esque beats, Beck worthy “nonsense” lyrics and and a rap/sing style reminiscent of Cake. These are all good things.

If this change in direction holds true for the rest of the album, Sod In The Seed might shape up to be one of the most interesting listens of the year.
