Album Review: The Chicharones – Swine Flew
One of the things I miss most about living in Portland, OR, is catching The Chicharones at their live shows. While I was there, I got to know Sleep and Josh Martinez pretty well, and had the chance to watch their new record transform from mere ideas to finished product. They were featured in NBA2k11 last year, have been called “The Best Bar Band in North America” by Spin Magazine, will be headlining the Bring It Back stage at all 43 dates of The Vans Warped Tour this year, and are about to release one the best albums I’ve heard in a long time. Believe me when I say – these guys are about to blow up!
Swine Flew, which comes out June 19th on Camobear Records, is an array of catchy hooks, multi-part harmonies, upbeat production and witty lyrics. It’s hip-hop music for people who don’t like hip-hop. Dance music for people who don’t like to dance and good tunes for people who hate everything!
Sleep and Josh have put a lot of time and effort into this new album, and it shows. They have upped their live experience to include a band, costume changes, comedy, magic, and DJ Zone as the best scratching pig you’ve ever seen!
As two veteran performers, Sleep and Josh Martinez have traveled the world showcasing their music, paying their dues in the process. The release of Swine Flew marks a new chapter in the story of The Chicharones. With a loyal and ever-growing fan base, a professional marketing team behind them, and one of the best albums of the year, The Chicharones are just a couple humble guys (and a pig) looking to take over the world!
