Lupe Fiasco – “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)”

Lupe Fiasco just recently released his first single off of his new album Food and Liquor 2. It hadn’t been out for a whole day and it was met with controversy. The song “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” features a sample from the song “They Reminisce Over You” (TROY) by Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Apparently Pete Rock was upset about him using that sample, even though he got permission to use it. Personally I don’t care if Pete Rock is upset, he sampled the sax part from Tom Scott and the California Dreamers, so why is he mad? It’s what artists do, they sample each other and make it their own. Sure, you could say it’s not as good as TROY but why are you comparing the two? It’s a good song and I feel it fits Lupe’s smooth flow perfectly.
