MTVu Woodie Awards at SXSW

Every year MTVu showcases talent popular with college students. Up and coming acts perform to young crowds who then vote for their favorites. This year many of the nominees came as no surprise, as it featured the majority of blog favorites and buzz bands.
My favorite performer this year was Machine Gun Kelly. While being a rapper that’s pretty difficult to take seriously, he can put on a hell of a live show. From simple jokes and adlibs to climbing on top of speakers (or really anything that was tall and stationary) MGK worked the crowd far more than most “serious” rappers.

Other performers included Fun, A$AP Rocky, Dev, Santigold, and Mac Miller, who ended up taking home the awards of best performance and artist of the year.
