Album: Soy La Vid – Lost in Translation
Lost in Translation is a concept album built around musical ekpharasis: making art inspired by other art. In the case of the album, each song draws influence from a different piece at the Art Institute in Chicago. As you’ll hear, this inspiration gives the album a wide and varied breadth of sounds, just like the artwork used. Artist Soy La Vid walks the line between experimental and traditional sounds with Lost in Translation, and seems to have found a sweet spot among it all, creating a very accessible and fun concept album. Below you’ll find the full album stream and a collection of the art that inspired it.

With sounds that range from swooping, astral jams, to more grounded indie-rock fare, there’s a little bit of everything in Lost in Translation. It would be a fallacy to label it as “super high concept,” but also a disservice to lump it with the hordes of generic indie-rock /pop out there. Instead it makes its home somewhere in-between. An album built on vision, but with the musical chops and mainstream sensibilities to make it appealing to everyone. Lost in Translation is ambitious, different, and most importantly, just good music.
