Why 2012 Is Going To Be A Great Year For Music

2012 is poised to be one of the greatest years in music in awhile. Why? Well, I’ll give you a hint: it isn’t because Justin Bieber is set to have an album coming out. In fact, I don’t even know whether that’s true or not. It’s exciting because Phoenix, Spoon, Delta Spirit, Mumford & Sons, P.O.S., Passion Pit, Animal Collective, The Shins, Brother Ali, Dr. Dre, Miike Snow, Lana Del Rey, Andrew Bird, Sleigh Bells, and the xx are poised to release albums. That’s not even including all of the new or smaller bands that will release great music. That is so many potentially great albums to look forward to. Of course, all of those albums could end up being terrible, but… odds are, they won’t be. Even better, many of those bands will be touring to support those albums. Bah! It’s going to be a great year. Record sales are on the rise and so is my excitement for every Tuesday of the year. I’m not going to lie, I’m not sure I could have said the same about 2011, at least not at the beginning of it. What do you all look forward to in the coming year of music?

P.S. Don’t quote me on the Spoon album. I threw it in there as more of a hopeful than a definite.

I can not agree with you more, except there should be one more name up there…and her name is Ellie Goulding .

Agreed. Also, I recently discovered Of Montreal and Bloc Party should be on that list as well. Holy smokes, my outlook for the year just keeps getting better.

Couple months late on the comment, but you should’ve had Dre’s album in your PS too, considering he’s been poised to release a new album for almost 10 years…We can only hope that Detox actually drops this year.
